Loomis
Captures Biggest Career Payday at Kamp 50
Jeffrey A.
Bayless
Boswell, IN (September 17,
2005) When a weekly Late Model track hosts a big show it is not an uncommon
occurrence for one of it's local representatives to put in a good showing
running up front with the traveling higher budget drivers that will stop in
for the big money show. However, it is a rare occasion when one of the
tracks weekly drivers come away with the increased winner's purse. But that
was the case at Kamp Motor Speedway's 3rd running of it's Kamp 50 when
Kingston, IL driver Ted Loomis claimed the $5000 to win race. Loomis drives
a Rhyne Competition Motors powered GRT racecar and is sponsored by Hayes Auto
Body, A Reliable Auto Parts, Raeber Transport, and Freedom Grill.
The 33 entries were
separated into 4 eight lap heat races that would transfer 4 to the feature
with the remaining entries separated into one of two conciliation races that
would transfer 2 each to the main event to complete the 20 car field that
would compete in the 50 lap race. The first heat saw Loomis shoot to an early
5 car length advantage as Steve Barnett and the evenings fast qualifier Dennis
Erb Jr. battled for the second spot. Erb would eventually clear Barnett and
would slowly reel in Loomis and make the pass for the lead with 2 laps to go
only to drift high in the first set of turns on the white flag lap allowing
Loomis to storm back to the point. At the stripe it was Loomis followed by
Erb who held off Barnett by a nose for the runner up slot. Roger Long and
Chris Dick would round out the top 5. In the second heat 2 time defending
track champion Michael Bradley would be comfortably in command when his engine
expired 1 lap from pay dirt handing the win to Eric Smith. Mike Mullvain,
Shawn Negengard, Rohn Moon, and Butch Smith would round out the top
5. Don Hammer would lead flag to flag in the third heat followed by Zach
Carney, Brian Rickey, Josh Ferguson, and Cory Rolfe. In the 4th and final
heat the 2004 winner of the Kamp 50, Kevin Weaver, would move to the point on
the 4th lap and go on to win by 5 car lengths over Duane Chamberlain, Dan
Walden, Dick Potts, and Jason Beier. Chris Dick would fend off an early
challenge from Cory Rolfe to go onto win the first conciliation race with
Rolfe holding onto second ahead of Jim Felker Jr., Kerry Mathew, and Rob
Starkey. Jason Feger would charge from the rear of the second last chance
race after breaking in his heat to claim the win with Jason Beier, Jim Laws,
Ed Williams, and Butch Smith coming home behind him.
At the start of the main
event Loomis would jump to the early lead followed by Smith, Carney, and
a four car battle for 4th between Hammer, Erb, Chamberlain, and Barnett who
had stormed forward from his 5th row starting spot. 3 laps into the event
with the top 5 as Loomis, Smith, Carney, Chamberlain, and Hammer, the first
caution would fly as Long would slow to a stop in the third turn. It would be
a chore to get the feature back under way as on the first attempt Rolfe would
spin in turn 2 and on the second attempt Barnett would get into Hammer coming
out of two sending the Farmer City Raceway promoter into a spin. Barnett was
charged with this caution sending him to the rear and Hammer was given his
spot back. Once back underway, Loomis would charge out to a comfortable lead
until he began to reach the back markers at the 13 lap mark. As Loomis was
negotiating the traffic Smith would rapidly cut away his lead as Carney,
Erb, Chamberlain, and Weaver were locked in a battle for the 3rd spot 10 car
lengths back of the leading duo. A lap 18 caution for debris would close the
field back up and would reshape the field as on the restart Erb would power
his way into third and at the half way point the top 3 of Loomis, Smith, and
Erb would be nose to tail as Chamberlain and Weaver fought for the 4th spot
several car lengths in arrears. Erb and Smith would begin a dual for the
second spot allowing Loomis to pull out once again to a comfortable lead.
However as the race roared into it's final leg Loomis would find himself tied
up in heavy traffic allowing Erb and then Smith to close back in. With
10 laps to go, Loomis made a move to the top shelf in the first set of turns
trying to clear a pack of slower cars opening the door for Erb who would dive
underneath him to claim the point only to get boxed in by the same lapped cars
allowing Loomis to regain the point heading into turn 1 on the next circuit.
For the next three laps this dance would continue as Loomis and Erb would play
a game of cat and mouse with the lapped traffic trying to gain the upper hand
on his nemesis. Going into turn 1 on the 44th circuit Erb would jump the
cushion allowing Loomis to break free from this battle only to see Walden spin
in turn three on the same lap bringing out the races final caution setting up
a 6 lap shootout. On the restart Loomis would get the upper hand separating
from Erb who was not able to keep up with him with a clear track in front of
the leader. Smith would mount a late challenge and would reclaim the runner
up spot 2 laps from checkers but would be 5 car lengths back of Loomis at that
point. However, Loomis about let the victory slip from his grasp as he
bobbled in the last set of turns coming to take the checkers allowing Smith to
erase the gap. But at the stripe it would be Loomis with Smith glued to his
bumper followed by Erb and Weaver. Barnett and Feger both coming from the
rear, Barnett due to being charged with a caution and Feger transferring
through a conci, would make good use of the the 6 lap shootout at the races
conclusion to gain several spots each as Barnett would come home 5th and Feger
6th. Chamberlain, Carney, Negengard, and Walden would round out the top 10.
In victory lane Loomis would exclaim "This is the biggest race I have ever
won. I've won a lot of regular races and I have always wanted to get a big
one and now I finally got one." He then elaborating on his battle with Erb
later in the pits by stating "I knew lapped traffic was going to be a problem
and I was just trying to ride around on the bottom but I knew I had to do
something because someone was going to be coming. I moved to the top and then
I saw Dennis come underneath me. That had me worried but it all worked out.
Five thousand dollars! Wow! That feels really good, especially for a guy
like me with no money."
RACE NOTES
Loomis not only claimed
his biggest career pay day with his Kamp 50 victory he sealed the deal on the
2005 K-Motion Valve Springs Kamp Motor Speedway Track Championship lengthening
his lead over Dan Walden enough that it cannot be overcome with only 1 points
race left in the season.
Chuck Haga, another
weekly front runner at Kamp, encountered problems in hot laps and was unable
to make it back out scratching for the evening.
Jim Laws coming into the
evening sitting 10 points out of third place in points behind Haga could have
gained a lot on his competitor's misfortune but failed to transfer to the
feature finishing a disappointing 7th in his heat race and 3rd in his conci
after putting in a gallant effort coming from the third row.

Barnett Lengthens Point Lead With Victory at Kamp
Jeffrey A.
Bayless
Boswell,
IN (Aug 27th 2005) As the 2005 version of the Northern Allstar Late
Model Series (NALMS) is drawing to a conclusion, 5 time series champion,
Franklin, Indiana's Steve Barnett is gunning for his 6th title in a 7 year
time span. However over the last month Sadorus, IL native Steve Hillard had
been taking chunks out of Barnett's point lead by racking up 3 wins in the
last 6 events, 2 of which had came after debuting a brand new Mastersbilt
chassis. Barnett took notice, took possession of a new Rayburn chassis, and
began to rectify the situation by besting 29 entries at Kamp Motor Speedway
with his 1st NALMS win of the season, his 6th over all win of the year. The
Franklin Flyer uses Cornett Racing Engines and is sponsored by JD Byrider Car
Sales, Tony Stewart Motorsports, and True Speed Enterprises.
Barnett began the evening by taking the checkers
in the first heat over fast qualifier Dennis Erb Jr., Shawn Negengard, and
Mike Mataragas. In the second heat Kevin Weaver and Dan Walden went into the
first set of turns door to door but as the duo raced down the back stretch
Zach Carney dove underneath this pair and charged to the point only to slide
high in the 4th turn relinquishing the top spot to Weaver who would not look
back as he would power away to a dominating win with Frank Heckenast Jr.,
Carney, and Walden a straight away in arrears. In the third heat Jason Feger
would take the point and cruise to victory as Ted Loomis and Steve Hillard
battled for the runner up-spot much of the event with Loomis grabbing the spot
by a bumpers length at the stripe. Jim Felker would grab the 4th and final
transfer spot. Duane Chamberlain and Dick Potts would battle early for the
lead in the 4th and final heat with Chamberlain securing the lead on the third
circuit and driving away to the victory as Jarryd Holshouser made an
impressive showing in his rookie campaign grabbing the runner-up spot at the
stripe over Potts and Mark Stetler. The final 4 spots would be filled from
the conci as Josh Ferguson claimed the win over Kerry Mathew, Bill Workman
Jr., and Cory Rolfe.
The start of the 30 lap
main event was marred by a multi-car tangle in the 4th turn, however all cars
involved were able to continue on. When the field took the green again
Barnett would grab the point leading Chamberlain, Weaver, Feger, and Erb
across the stripe to complete the first circuit. Weaver and Feger began a
side by side dual that would last for much of the race on the second circuit
as they both powered by Chamberlain and kept pace with the leader between 2
and 3 car lengths back of Barnett. As the leaders began reeling in the back
markers at the 9 lap mark, the race for the point began to heat up as Feger
would slip under Barnett briefly grabbing the point on the 10th circuit only
to have the yellow come out for a spin by Rolfe in turn 2 negating the lap and
the pass. While under caution, 4th running Chamberlain would coast to a stop
on the front stretch with a broken battery mount ending his night leaving the
top 5 as Barnett, Feger, Weaver, Loomis, and Erb for the restart. The top
three would once again distance themselves from the field when the green was
unfurled as Loomis and Erb began to dice it up for the 4th spot. Things would
remain the same until a caution 8 laps from pay dirt would set up some fierce
racing action over the last few laps. On the restart Erb would charge by
Weaver to take third as Feger would make a last ditch attempt to wrestle the
lead from Barnett. As Feger tried to tame the rim to get by Barnett, Weaver
charged back past Erb and would quickly reel in Feger who was loosing ground
to Barnett. At the stripe it would be Barnett picking up the $2500 pay check
followed by Weaver, Feger, Erb, Loomis, Heckenast Jr., Negengard, Walden,
Potts, and Felker. Barnett who was obviously thrilled with the victory
pumping his fist out of the window while taking the checkers exclaimed "This
win means a lot to me, especially with Steve Hillard breathing down my neck in
the points chase." He then continued "What about this track! Bob and Gayle
Kamp do an excellent job preparing a track to race on."
The NALMS tour will make
a couple of stops on Labor Day weekend, first up will be a $5000 to win event
at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, KY on Saturday the 3rd, and
then a $3500 to win event at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN on the 4th.

RACE NOTES
Steve Hillard had
narrowed the point spread between himself and point leader Steve Barnett
coming into Kamp Motor Speedway to 40 points. But Hillard's quest to unseat
Barnett from the top spot took a serious hit at this event as a 14th place
showing due to a DNF left him 68 points behind the 5 time champion. Hillard
obviously a little upset with the showing stated after the races "We had a
good car, especially considering we had no brakes (after cutting a brake line
in the first lap pile-up). We had worked our way up to 5th and might have
been able to get another spot or two, when we dropped the drive shaft (5 laps
from the finish). But" he continued shrugging his shoulders, "we will try
again next weekend."
Duane Chamberlain can't seem to get anything to
go his way. After starting on the pole and running a solid 4th he became the
first car out of the race when his battery mount broke. "I can't seem to get
any good luck going. It's one thing after another. But I will have my new
car ready for next weekend and Barnett is fast in his. So we will see."
Several of Kamp's regulars and top runners
struggled on this evening hurting their track points chase. Jim Laws broke a
left rear axle while running second in the conci and was done for the
evening. Others including 2nd in the points Chuck Haga, and 6th in the points
Rob Starkey also struggled failing to make the show.

June 25....KAMP,
Boswell, IN....$10,000
thanks to SMASH
Dennis Erb
of Carpentersville, Illinois showed his muscle tonight as 44 cars invaded the
ultra-fast oval of Bob and Gayle Kamp as the UMP Summer Nationals rolled into
the KAMP Motor Speedway for Round #2 of the 2005 marathon tour.
Erb took the lead at the green from the outside front row and was followed by
Babb, Moyer, English, Drake, Mars and Weaver in the early laps. While Erb took
to the high side and built momentum, Babb would make several challenges to Erb
over the 40 laps and closed in on the last few laps to mount a serious threat.
With the momentum Erb had on the high side, Babb's attempts in the closing laps
were thwarted and Erb would take the checkers ahead of Babb, Moyer, English,
Weaver, Mars, Drake, Miller, Van Wormer and Feger at the stripe.
Erb earned $10,000.00 for his efforts behind the wheel of the Petroff Towing, BK
Sportswear, Hoosier Racing Tire, Reaber Transport. Malcuit powered C.J. Rayburn
chassis #28.
Shannon Babb, last nights winner at the Crown Point Speedway began the evening
by posting the fastest lap with a time of 13.162 of the entries on hand.
Babb would go on to claim the dash ahead of Erb, Terry English, Billy Moyer,
Roger Long, Billy Drake, Kevin Weaver, Michael Bradley and Rodney Melvin who
lost a powerplant in the event and was a DNF.
The first heat was won by Weaver over Jeep Van Wormer, Ryan Dauber, Duane
Chamberlain, Ted Loomis, Frank Heckenast, Jr., Mark Weisnicht, Elvin Hershberger,
Corey Rolfe and Turk Letizia.
Second heat honors fell upon Jimmy Mars over Michael Bradley, Patrick Sheltra,
Randy Korte, Chuck Haga, Dick Potts, John Mason, Kyle Roderick, Brian Shirley
and Bill Workmas, Sr.
The third heat was topped by Jason Feger over Darren Miller, Bret Sievert, Rob
Starkey, Mark Voigt, Rohn Moon, Tim Prince and Bill Workman, Jr.
The fourth and final heat was won by Dan Welden over Sean Negangard, Zach
Carney, Jim Laws, Wes Steidinger, Jordan Bland, Josh Ferguson, Robert Pohlman
and Jim Letizia.
The consis were won by Duane Chamberlain and Randy Korte. Wes Steidinger was
added to the field as the UMP Summer Nationals provisional and Loomis and Haga
were added as track provisionals.

Breaks Through in Round 2 of the Summer Nationals
Jeffrey A.
Bayless
Boswell, IN (June 25) The
second round of DIRT Motorsports' UMP Summer Nationals rolled into the 3/8ths
mile red clay covered speed plant known as Kamp Motor Speedway Saturday night
with 44 of the Midwest's finest on hand to compete for the $10,000 top prize.
A late afternoon shower delayed the start of the program, but once under way
the packed house was treated to a top notch program. When the checkers had
flown it was Carpentersville, IL native, Dennis Erb Jr. driving his Malcuit
powered CJ Rayburn Chassis Petroff Towing, BK Sportswear, Hoosier Racing Tire,
and Reaber Transport sponsored race car to victory lane.
The dash for the pole saw
Shannon Babb take the checkers ahead of Dennis Erb Jr., Terry English, Billy
Moyer, Roger Long, and Billy Drake. Those 6 drivers would make up the first
three rows of the main event. Four heats then would transfer 3 each to the
feature with everyone else going to 1 of two concis which would transfer 1
each. In the first heat Kevin Weaver powered away to the victory ahead of
Jeep VanWormer, Ryan Dauber, and Duane Chamberlain. The second heat saw Jimmy
Mars take an impressive win over Michael Bradley, Patrick Sheltra, and Randy
Korte. In the third heat Jason Feger would hold Darren Miller at bay to claim
the checkers with Brett Seivert and Rob Starkey coming home behind them. The
fourth and final heat saw local hot shoe, Dan Walden, claim the victory ahead
of Shawn Negengard, Zach Carney, and Jim Laws. The first conci would see pole
sitter Duane Chamberlain storm away to the victory followed by Frank Heckenast
Jr., and Ted Loomis. In the second conci Jim Laws would hold Randy Korte at
bay for 11 laps only to see the wily veteran slip by on the final circuit to
claim the victory. Brian Shirley came home 3rd after starting 11th in this
conci. Ted Loomis and Chuck Haga were added to the field as the track
provisionals with Wes Steidinger getting the Series provisional to complete
the 23 car field.
The fireworks lighting up
the sky in the third turn before the start of the main event served as a
precursor to what the fans had in store for them. Erb would edge out Babb
down the back stretch to lead the first lap with Moyer, English, and Drake in
tow. Erb, riding the rim, powered away to an 8 car length lead and was
approaching the back markers on the 8th circuit when his lead evaporated with
Ted Loomis finding the turn three wall to bring out the races first caution.
On the restart Babb would dive under Erb to challenge for the lead, but Erb
would have none of it as he powered away down the back stretch as Weaver used
the restart to bound from his 8th position to challenge Drake for 5th. Erb
would once again cruise to a comfortable lead, having a 10 car length lead at
the half way point as Babb and Moyer were falling further behind entangled in
slower traffic. This slower traffic would result in the next caution as Babb,
being harassed by Moyer and seeing Erb's bumper growing smaller in the
distance, would grow impatient and nudge his way through the pack of slower
cars sending Haga spinning in turn 1 on the 21st circuit collecting the
machines of Carney and Bradley in the process. When the action resumed Erb
would not return to his comfortable lead as Babb would remain a thorn in his
side the remainder of the way. Babb would constantly dive under Erb through
the turns but Erb would use the momentum of the high side to power back to the
front down the straights. The battle began to escalate with 10 laps to go as
Moyer was now in contact with the lead duo who were dicing it up in lapped
traffic putting on a supreme show for the fans. Erb would clear the lapped
traffic first and would establish a 2 car length lead but had it all erased
when Long stalled in turn three 5 laps from the finish setting up a 5 lap dash
paying 10 grand to the winner. Moyer would challenge Babb on the restart
allowing Erb some breathing room. But that room for error quickly dissipated
as Babb quickly shook off the challenge from Moyer and reeled in Erb again.
As the leaders took the white flag the crowd came to their feet as Babb
would take one last shot at overtaking the race long leader. Babb dove under
Erb heading into the first set of turns and the duo would drag race down the
back stretch entering turn three neck and neck. Exiting turn 4, Erb would
edge ahead and cross the stripe one half of a car ahead of Babb to claim his
first career Summer National win. Moyer, English, Weaver, Mars, Drake,
Miller, VanWormer, and Feger would comprise the rest of the top 10 finishers.
Exiting his car in victory raising his hands in the air in celebration a
jubilant Erb proclaimed "I had one of the best following me there. I was just
trying to hold my own. I just tried to stay smooth and hoped everything
worked out." Work out it did, as Erb would leave the facility $10,000 to the
better than when he had entered.
The series now heads
south down Highway 41 for round three of the traveling marathon as Tri-State
Speedway in Haubstadt, IN will host the Sunday night event paying $6000 to the
winner.
Notes
Brian Shirley struggled
in qualifications only earning a 7th starting position in his heat. He would
charge forward in his heat only to loop his mount in turn three on the final
circuit while racing Patrick Sheltra for the third and final transfer spot.
He would then follow suit in his conci advancing from 11th to third in 4 laps
only to stagnate at that position failing to improve any further and missed
the feature.
Dick Potts, who had
mechanical issues at Crown Point in the first round of the series, stepped
into the 5C numbered machine normally driven by Barry Carlson to try his hand
at making the second round of the series. He was unsuccessful.
UMP National point
leader, Rodney Melvin, abruptly slowed and headed pit side during the dash.
He then would fail to appear for any of the remainder of the contests and miss
the show.

Feger,
Cramer Visit Victory Lane at Kamp
Jeffrey A.
Bayless
Boswell, IN (May 28) Kamp
Motor Speedway, the red clay surfaced 3/8ths mile high banked oval outside of
Boswell, IN hosted some hot action on this cool Saturday evening with two
Bloomington natives capturing flag to flag feature wins. Bloomington, IL
native, Jason Feger, drove his Mullvain Motorsports Engine powered Mastersbilt
Late Model to victory as did Bloomington, IN native, Jesse Cramer, in his
Cramer Motorsports Lightning Modified.
Feger powered his
Mastersbilt to the early lead ahead of Zach Carney, 4th row starting Dan
Walden, Ted Loomis, and Jason Beier and stretched out his lead to several car
lengths as Walden continued his charge forward taking the second spot on the
2nd circuit. Meanwhile, pole-sitter Jason Beier, who had looked impressive in
his heat win must have missed something in the feature set-up as he drifted
backwards fast with Jim Laws moving into the 5th spot. The first shake-up at
the front of the field came when current point leader, Ted Loomis, suddenly
slowed on the front stretch stalling at the track exit brining out the
caution. Once the action resumed things were quiet until the 13th circuit
when John Moore got out of shape as the leaders were coming upon him. Moore
drifted up the track in turn 3 and 4 and lost control in the loose stuff and
in his fight to regain control he came back down across the track and sliced
in between Feger and Walden allowing Feger to pull away and Carney to dart
under Walden to take the runner-up spot. Walden quickly regrouped, however,
and reclaimed the 2nd spot on the 15th circuit as the duo raced into turn 1.
Moore's trouble was not over though as he would eventually bring out the
caution on the 19th circuit as he spun and stopped on the front stretch. This
would put Walden back into contention for the win, but to no avail as he made
several attempts over the last few laps but when the checkers flew it was
Feger by two car lengths. Dick Potts was able to maneuver past Carney over
the last few laps to take the third spot with Jim Laws, Josh Ferguson, Cory
Rolfe, Rob Starkey, Chuck Haga, and Bill Luse coming home 5th through 10th. A
jubilant Feger remarked in victory lane "We needed that one really bad, we've
had some bad luck lately. This one gives us some momentum heading into some
bigger shows next week."
In Modified action Jesse
Cramer and Tim Reynolds took their front row starting spots and checked out on
the field early as they raced to a straight away lead with Reynolds riding the
bumper of Cramer. Reynolds tried several different lines during the course of
the event to find a way around Cramer, but each time he was unable to find a
quicker path than the one Cramer was using and would drop back in behind him.
As Cramer and Reynolds raced to a 1, 2 finish the rest of the field was in a
dog fight running 2 and 3 wide for position through the pack. At the stripe
it was Cramer, Reynolds, Chuck Haga, David Hurst, Brad Roberts, Bob Pohlman,
Derreck Losh, Jammie Wilson, William Harrison, and JR Coyner. Cramer who has
been on a tear this season, winning on a regular basis, smiled and remarked
"The car wasn't that great, but it worked I guess."
In other action Mike
Elliot grabbed his first feature win in the Super Street class beating track
favorite Kenny Sweat to the stripe. Jarred Krick also picked up his first of
the season in a street stock special event holding off Larry Matillo.

Walden Powers To Victory, Bull Holds off Hamstra at Kamp Motor
Speedway
Jeffrey A. Bayless
Boswell, IN
(May 7) A slight chance of rain came to fruition late in the afternoon in the
Boswell, IN area but it only put a delay on the start of a ferocious night of
competition at Kamp Motor Speedway, a 3/8ths mile clay oval in the small
Benton County community.
IN UMP Late
Model competition it was pole sitter, Ted Loomis taking the early point with
Chuck Haga using a power move out of 4 to grab the second spot ahead of
Patrick Sheltra, Duane Chamberlain, and fast qualifier Dan Walden. After a
couple of quick early cautions, one of which saw Ed Woodard make heavy contact
with the outside wall in turn 2, Loomis and Haga pulled away from the pack,
with Sheltra sitting alone in third and Chamberlain, Walden, and defending
track champion Michael Bradley slugging it out for position a few lengths back
of Sheltra. Things began to settle down until the half way point when Loomis
and Haga began to find themselves in slower traffic. It was at this juncture
that Haga began to put the moves on Loomis, working his way past to claim the
point on the 14th circuit. Sheltra closed the gap on the leaders to make it a
three car hunt but on the 19th circuit Kerry Mathew spun in turn 2 changing
the whole complexion of the race. On the restart, 5th running Walden jumped
to the high side and powered his way past Chamberlian and Sheltra to grab the
third spot and one lap later dove under Loomis to grab the runner-up spot and
was pressuring Haga for the lead when Rusty Coffman spun bringing out the
races final caution. The Crawfordsville, IN native wasted little time when
the green flew again, jumping to the outside of Haga and completing the pass
in turns 3 and 4 and went on to the checkers with Haga, Loomis, Sheltra,
Chamberlain, Jason Beier, Bradley, Eric Smith, Zach Carney, and Bill Luse
rounding out the top 10 finishers. The jubilant Walden exclaimed in victory
circle "We changed just about everything that could be changed on the car
after the heat. He (Loomis) got away from us in the heat and I think I burnt
my tires off trying to catch him. Don't get me wrong, I had a fast car in the
heat, but I knew I had to make some changes to beat him in the feature."
The UMP
Modifieds were running for an enlarged purse in what Kamp Motor Speedway is
calling the Modified Super Saturday. The first Saturday of every month during
the season the mods will be running for a $1000 to win, $125 to start purse
according to track officials. Fast qualifier Scott Bull of Fairbury, IL won
his heat going away and appeared to have everything well in control in the
feature, that was until 9th starting Fair Oaks, IN native Dan Hamstra worked
his way through the pack to give Bull and the fans their money's worth in the
late stages of the race. Bull jumped to the lead and was enjoying a
comfortable margin through the early stages of the race while Hamstra labored
in the 7th spot battling with several cars for position. That was until a 9th
lap caution give him the opportunity he had been seeking. On the restart
Bull resumed his lead while Hamstra began his charge towards the front moving
into 5th on the restart and into 4th a lap later. A couple more cautions and
excellent restarts saw Hamstra sitting in the runner up spot on the 11th
circuit. At this point it appeared that Hamstra, now through the traffic and
on Bull's bumper, could stay with the race long leader, but had nothing for
him to get by as he seemed stuck in Bull's tracks glued to his bumper. But a
late race caution set up a 3 lap shootout, and a shootout it was. On the drop
of the green, Hamstra dove to the bottom and drag raced Bull into turn 1,
gaining the edge going through the turns, but Bull used the momentum of the
top side to edge back ahead down the straight away. This same scenario played
itself out over the last laps until it looked like Hamstra might pull it off
on the white flag lap as the duo raced door to door into 3 and Hamstra came
out of 4 with a 3/4ths of a car length lead. But Bull let it all hang out and
pulled even with Hamstra again as they crossed the stripe to take the checkers
and it was Bull by a bumpers length to win the $1000 prize. Chad Kinder, Bob
Pohlman Jr., Jeff Leka, Tommy Kroll, Aaron Ricketts, Travis Kohler, Brian
McDanial, and Kevin Davis rounded out the top 10 in this event.

NALMS April 23rd. Race at Kamp Motor Speedway Has Been
Cancelled
Due to blizzard like conditions for Sat. April 23rd. The staff at Kamp Motor
Speedway has cancelled the race. Weather report has it with a low of 28 with
high winds. I think it was a very smart decision to make. We will reschedule
the race at a latter date. As of now we will still be racing at Vermilion
County Speedway on Sunday April 24th. If something would change I will let
everyone know.
This is a tentative
schedule and subject to change.
