ECKRICH, MAHLSTEDT, PINKERTON, GILLENWATER, ROTHZEN, ST. CLAIR, SCHULTE
TAKE HOME MEMPHIS NATIONALS LAURELS
by Brian Neal
MEMPHIS, Mo. (Oct. 15, 2005) -- The final night of the inaugural Memphis
Nationals at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway saw 226 race cars
return in hopes of taking home the big prize. Andy Eckrich (Super Late Models),
Dean Mahlstedt (USRA Modifieds), Brad Pinkerton (USRA Stock Cars), Jim
Gillenwater (USRA B-Modifieds), Brandon Rothzen (USRA Hobby Stocks), Michael St.
Clair (Cruisers) and Tyler Schulte (Hornets/Pony Stocks) all took home the big
paychecks in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
The first feature of the night was the 12-lap Hornet feature, with Joe Zrostlik
and David Lorton leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Zrostlik
jumped out front on lap 1, with Lorton and John Brown battling for second. Tyler
Schulte, who started seventh, moved up quickly to challenge Zrostlik for the top
spot. Schulte was able to slip by Zrostlik on lap 6 and then held him off on the
final 6 laps to take the win and the $300 check back to Montrose, IA. Rob Chase
came from 9th to finish in third, Dennis Schulte came home in fourth, with Joe
Evans coming from 11th to round out the top five.
Michael St. Clair and Dave Hudson made up the front row for the 12-lap Cruiser
feature, with St. Clair grabbing the lead on the start. St. Clair went on to
lead all 12 laps to claim the $300 top prize. Bill O'Haver came home second,
third went to Craig Spilker, with Keith Reed in fourth, and fifth going to Tony
Schulte after starting fourteenth.
The 15-lap Hobby Stock feature was up next, with Jake Wenig and Ben Moudry
leading the field to the green. Moudry would take advantage of his front row
start to take the lead on lap 1. Moudry then held the top spot until lap 9, when
John Oliver Jr. slipped by for the lead. Oliver Jr. would hold off Moudry over
the final 6 laps to cross the finish line in first. However, after going through
post-race technical inspection, Oliver, second-place finisher Moudry and
fourth-place finisher Brian Clark were disqualified. So going home with the $700
check was third-place finisher Brandon Rothzen. Jake Wenig was moved to second,
third went to Dan Wenig, fourth to Chris Wibbell, who started 15th, with Robert
Brown coming from 22nd to finish in fifth.
Tony Dunker and Wyatt Lantz led the field to the drop of the green in the 15-lap
B-Modified feature, with Lantz jumping out front on lap 1. Lantz had built a
good lead over second place Jim Gillenwater, when the caution came out on lap 8.
Lantz would hold off Gillenwater on the restart, but Gillenwater would slip by
on lap 10 to take over the top spot. Gillenwater then went on to lead the final
5 laps to claim the win and the $1,000 top prize that went with it. Lantz
settled for second, Jerry Poor was third, Jeff Waterman was fourth, with Bob
Woodrow rounding out the top five.
Up next was the 20-lap Stock Car feature, which had Jason Cook and Brad
Pinkerton on the front row. Cook would move out front on lap 1, with Pinkerton
close behind in second. Pinkerton worked the middle of the track to grab the
lead away from Cook on lap 6. Cook, who was running the bottom, and Pinkerton,
who was in the middle, ran the final 14 laps side by side. Pinkerton would hold
off Cook at the line to pick up the win and the $2,000 check. Mike Harwood
finished in third, Shane Weller was fourth, with Matt Greiner coming from 14th
to round out the top five.
Tony Fraise and Dean Mahlstedt led the field to the drop of the green in the
30-lap Modified feature, with Fraise moving out front on lap 1. Fraise would
only hold the top spot until lap 2, when Mahlstedt jumped to his outside to take
over the lead. Mahlstedt maneuvered through lapped traffic over the final half
of the race to go on and pick up the win. The Garner, Iowa driver's win was
worth $5,000, and may have been his biggest of his racing career. Mark Burgtorf
came home second, Bruce Hanford was third, Brad Pinkerton came from 12th to
finish in fourth, with Kevin Cale coming home in fifth.
The final event of the night was the 40-lap Super Late Model feature. Matt
Furman and Andy Eckrich made up the front row for the feature, with Eckrich
grabbing the lead on lap 1. Eckrich would survive a late race caution to hold
off Brian Harris and take home the $5,000 paycheck. John VanDenBerg came home
third, Tommy Elston came from 11th to finish in fourth, with Rob Moss rounding
out the top five.
Coming up next weekend, October 21-22, will be the season finale for both the
O'Reilly USMTS and the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. On Friday,
October 21, the O'Reilly USMTS Modifieds will be racing for $2,000 to win while
the Stock Cars will be going for $300 to win, B-Modifieds and Hobby Stocks for
$200 and the Cruisers and Hornets/Pony Stocks for $100 to win. Then on Saturday,
October 22, the O'Reilly USMTS Modifieds will be going for $3,000 to win with
the Stock Cars going for $1,200 to win, B-Modifieds and Hobby Stocks for $500,
Cruisers for $250 and Hornets/Pony Stocks for $200 to win.

AT MEMPHIS NATIONALS
MEMPHIS, Mo. (Oct. 13, 2005) -- A record 176 cars and drivers in six classes
jam-packed the pit area Thursday for the opening night of the inaugural Memphis
Nationals at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo.
The top six cars from each A-main were locked into their respective main events
for Saturday night's finale at the 3/8-mile high-banked dirt oval.
With 51 USRA Modifieds in action, 2005 track champion Tony Fraise of Donnellson,

but passed 12 cars en route to finishing sixth and taking the final transfer
spot into Saturday's main event.
Jason Cook of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, started ninth in the USRA Stock Car feature,
but battled his way to the front to score the victory Thursday night. Michael
Browning of Edina, Southern Iowa Speedway track champion T.J. Criss of
Oskaloosa, Troy Alexander of Memphis and West Point, Iowa's Ryan Cook completed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, October 7, 2005
MEMPHIS NATIONALS PRE-ENTRY LIST SWELLS TO 130
MEMPHIS, Mo. (Oct. 7, 2005) -- As of Thursday, Oct. 6, there have been 130
drivers who have pre-entered for next weekend's inaugural Memphis Nationals at
the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo.
The pre-entries include drivers in Cruisers (8), Hornets/Pony Stocks (8), Hobby
Stocks (21), B-Modifieds (17), Stock Cars (21), Modifieds (35) and Late Models
(21).
"We have held several special events at Memphis, as well as other tracks this
season," said promoter Todd Staley. "Throughout those shows, pre-entered drivers
have been about 50 percent of the actual number of registered drivers come race
day. If that holds true next weekend, we could see more than 200 cars come
through the pit gates."
Due to the enormous response to this event, Staley also announced that the
pre-entry deadline has been extended through Wednesday, Oct. 12, where drivers
can register at the open practice being held at the facility.
Following Wednesday's open practice session, race fans will see Modifieds, Stock
Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks, Hornets/Pony Stocks and Cruisers racing on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday. The Super Late Models will be the feature attraction for
the Friday and Saturday night shows.

WHITNEY LOGS LABOR DAY CLASSIC WIN AT CRESCO
by Paul Pittman
CRESCO, Iowa (Sept. 5, 2005) -- Travis Whitney logged another very
successful weekend with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series by picking
up the Labor Day Classic win at the Cresco Speedway on Sunday, completing a
sweep of the holiday weekend events.
Mother Nature did her part for the race by providing near perfect conditions for
racing. High clouds and low winds kept the previous day’s rain in check and
provided a track that would maximize the efforts of drivers in time trials.
Scott Young bested a stout field of 35 cars by establishing a new track record
of 13.415 seconds.
Heat race winners included Kailey Gharst, Skip Jackson, Todd Hepfner and Todd
King.
Dave Uttech would take the B-Main, which included an incident that claimed the
top four cars. Near the halfway point, leader Tim St. Arnold slid hard in turn
four to avoid hitting a slowing car, which resulted in a flip of the #7W
sprinter. During the fracas, Larry Ball Jr., Jason Johnson and Billy Balog
attempted to take evasive action which resulted in the trio up against the
outside retaining wall. Only Johnson would go on to finish, but out of
contention at that point.
Mike Kertscher took command early in the 25-lap A-main, and set a blistering
pace that saw him begin lapping cars by lap 4. Travis Whitney was also on the
move, up to third in the same amount of time.
Action slowed on lap 6 when Todd Hepfner spun in turn 3, however four lapped
cars between Kertscher and Whitney would provide a buffer for the leader on the
restart.
Whitney would clear the traffic on the restart, however, Kertscher continued
recording lightening fast laps and by lap ten, was in lapped traffic again.
Lap 12 saw the red flag for Hefpner in turn 2. Hepfner was not hurt, but retired
the #28 from the event.
Damage to Kertscher’s wing as a result of incidental contact with debris from
Hepfner’s flip, would give hope to his pursuers and by lap 14, Whitney was up to
second, setting Kertscher up for a pass for the lead on lap 19.
Kertscher would hold on to second while Skip Jackson’s late-race charge from his
10th starting spot would find him crossing the finish line third.
NOTE: Sunday's event brought down the curtain on the 2005 season at the Cresco
Speedway. Banquet information will be announced in the near future. For more

FRAISE, COOK, EVANS, BECERRA CROWNED USRA TRACK CHAMPIONS AT BENTZ GM
COUNTRY SCOTLAND COUNTY SPEEDWAY
by Brian Neal
MEMPHIS, Mo. (Sept. 3, 2005) -- It was Cunningham Fertilizer Season
Championship Night at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway, with the
2005 USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series points coming to an end.
Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds), Jason Cook (USRA Stock Cars), Jack Evans Jr. (USRA
B-Modifieds), Tony Becerra (USRA Hobby Stocks), Dave Hudson (Cruisers) and
Dennis Schulte (Hornets) were crowned the 2005 track champions at the end of the
evening, which saw Fraise, Troy Alexander, Tony Dunker, Jeff Soper, Craig
Spilker and Brandon Savage take home feature wins.
The evening started off with the 10-lap Cruiser feature. Craig Spilker came into
the night with a shot at the title, and he would start off by grabbing the lead
on lap 1 of the feature. Spilker would go on to lead all 10 laps to claim his
third win in a row at Memphis. Michael St. Clair was second, Dave Hudson started
10th and worked his way up to third, which also helped him pick up the 2005
track title. Jeremy Buss was fourth, with Keith Reed coming home in fifth.
Hudson and St. Clair picked up the heat race wins.
Up next was the 12-lap Hornet feature, with 22 cars taking to the track. Don
DeMint and Rob Hammel led the field to the drop of the green flag, but it was
fourth-place starter Brandon Savage taking the lead on lap 1. Savage, Dennis
Schulte, who had already clinched the 2005 track championship, and Tyler Schulte
who started tenth battled for the top spot until lap 8. Savage would take the
lead and then held off Tyler and Dennis through heavy lapped traffic to pick up
his fifth win of the season at the speedway. John Oliver III came home fourth,
with Don DeMint holding on for fifth. Heat race winners were Savage, T. Schulte
and Travis DeMint.
The 12-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature turned out to be a battle down to the
checkered flag. Mark Holt and Jeff Soper drew the front row for the event, with
Soper moving out front on the drop of the green flag. Brian Howerton would slip
under Soper on lap 2 to take over the top spot, but Soper would come back the
next lap to get the lead back. Howerton wouldn't give up easy, as he took the
lead back from Soper on lap 5 and looked to be heading for his first career
feature win. But Soper had other ideas, as he slipped by Howerton on lap 9 to
take back the top spot. Soper then held off Howerton over the final three laps
to claim his first win of 2005 at Memphis, after sitting out most of the summer
with back problems. Mike Shelton came home third, with Tony Becerra following in
fourth, which helped him clinch the 2005 Track Title. While Justin Hamelton came
from 14th to round out the top 5. Howerton, Soper and Shelton took home the heat
race wins.
Tyler Lewis and Tony Dunker lead the field to the drop of the green flag in the
12-lap USRA B-Modified feature, with Dunker taking the lead on lap 1. Dunker
would hold the top spot until lap 3, when Ron York slipped under him for the
lead. York was able to hold off Dunker's challenges until lap 11, when he
slipped under him coming out of two to take the lead. Dunker then held off York
on the final lap to pick up his third win of 2005 at the track. Jack Evans Jr.,
who had already clinched the USRA B-Modified Title a week ago, would finish in
third, Jerry Poor ca
