Fifth O'Reilly MLRA Title to Al Purkey
Clint Brown
October 28, 2006

The 2006 O'Reilly MLRA Thunder Tour has come to a close and the final
rundown found Al Purkey coming out on top with his second championship in a
row and also became the first five time champion in series history.  Purkey
held off the season long charge of Belton, MO's Alan Vaughn by 96 points as
the championship came to a close.

Purkey used a model of consistency in 2006 to grab the title with four
victories followed by seventeen top 5's and twenty-five top 10 runs of the
twenty-nine races on the schedule.  Wins at Adrian Speedway, Mid America
Speedway, and the season sweep at Winston Speedway helped Purkey move to the
front of the pack and allowed him to hold off the charging pack behind him
in his familiar 33P Hatfield Racing Engines/Larry Shaw Race Cars Pontiac
Grand Prix.  The Coffeyville, KS resident also nabbed twelve heat race wins
along with two B feature victories throughout the season.  The championship
followed up title runs in 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2005.

Right behind Purkey in the final standings was Belton, MO's Alan Vaughn who
was also looking to grab that fifth O'Reilly MLRA title.  Although Vaughn
went through the 2006 season without grabbing a win he did keep his
Mastersilt/K&M Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the title hunt with nine top
5's and twenty-one top 10 finishes.  Coupled with those runs Vaughn was also
able to grab eight heat race wins, two B features, and a pole dash victory
during the racing season.

Following the front two points runners David Turner, Jason Bodenhamer, and
David Barker rounded out the top five in the final points.  While Bodenhamer
took home a single win during the year Turner and Barker used consistent
runs at the front of the pack to nail down their runs to the front of the
pack.

With the O'Reilly MLRA 2006 Thunder Tour complete the only thing that
remains is to honor all of the championship contenders at the 2006 O'Reilly
MLRA Awards Banquet.  Taking place on Saturday, November 25 at the Argosy
Casino there will be a Social Hour beginning at 5:30 pm with Dinner at 7:00
pm.  Awards will be awarded immediately following dinner.  Tickets are
available for $25.00 in advance or $30.00 at the door.  Reservations can be

O'Reilly MLRA Closer to Terry Phillips
Clint Brown
October 8, 2006

Terry Phillips picked up his eleventh win of the 2006 Thunder Tour as the
O'Reilly MLRA closed out the season at Bolivar Speedway USA.  The win was
also the 82nd career O'Reilly MLRA victory for the driver out of
Springfield, MO.

Jason Bodenhamer brought the field down to the green flag, but it was
outside pole sitter Steve Kosiski who used the high side to grab the lead
going into turn one.  Kosiski and Bodenhamer quickly opened up a small lead
over the rest of the field that saw cars running high and low all over the
track.  Jeremy Payne moved his way into the fourth spot on lap three with
Alan Vaughn following him through for the fifth spot.  Further back in the
pack Bill Frye was on the move coming to thirteenth on lap five only to pull
into the infield two laps later with motor problems.

Kosiski and Bodenhamer continued to set a blistering pace through the first
ten laps when Terry Phillips began using the low side of the track to move
into the fifth position on lap 11.  Phillips began to work on Payne for the
fourth spot and the pair raced three wide with Dewaine Hottinger where Payne
came away with the third position only to have Phillips shoot past both he
and Bodenhamer to take over second.  Phillips began to pressure Kosiski for
the top spot and pulled alongside coming off turn 2 where the pair made
contact that saw Kosiski bounce off of the back stretch wall collecting Will
Vaught on lap 18 bringing out the caution.

On the restart Phillips continued out front with Payne moving into second
and a quick running Steve Rushin making the move to take over the third
spot.  Rushin quickly began to try and make the low side of the track work
as he pulled alongside Payne as the field reached the 1/2 way point of the
40 lap event as Phillips stretched his lead to a half straight away.

Phillips began to work lapped traffic taking his machine to both the high
and low sides to make passes - even going three wide on occasion and
extended his lead even more.

The yellow flag flew on lap 31 for the spun machine of David Conkwright who
went around just ahead of second running Payne.  With the field rolling
around under yellow a problem had developed for Payne who had right front
suspension damage.  After checking the damage out Payne lined up to fight it
out to the finish.

On the restart Steve Rushin shot around Phillips as the green flag waved
only to give the spot back as he couldn't keep the momentum up.  Behind
those two Bodenhamer worked back into third around the wounded machine of
Payne while Jeff Taylor moved into the top five.  The remaining laps clicked
off and as the checkered flag waved Phillips built up a full straight
advantage to take the win.  Rushin held on for second with Bodenhamer,
Payne, and 15th starting Jeff Taylor completing the top five.

Four heat races were contested on the night with Steve Kosiski, Reid
Millard, Jeremy Payne and Dewaine Hottinger coming out on top.  Kelly Boen
and Billy James fought for the wins in the two B Features that were
contested prior to the feature event.

The night also capped off the O'Reilly MLRA 2006 Thunder Tour title fight
which saw Al Purkey bring home his fifth title with the series.  Needing to
merely start the event, the Coffeyville, KS racer encountered problems early
in the night, but fought back to a thirteenth place finish to claim the
title over Alan Vaughn.

Chris Smyser picks up Night 1 win at Bolivar Speedway USA
Clint Brown
October 8, 2006

Chris Smyser found the high banks of Bolivar Speedway USA to his liking on
Friday night as he grabbed the O'Reilly MLRA victory.  The win came on night
#1 of the Late Model Showdown which also saw the O'Reilly NCRA and O'Reilly
TORA series in competition.

Smyser lead the field down to the green, but Justin Wells was able to power
to the front from his outside row one starting position.  The lead pair
continued to spread the gap back to third running Alan Vaughn as the laps
clicked off on the high banks.  Wells began to encounter lapped traffic on
lap eleven and that allowed Smyser to close the gap and shoot past for the
top spot on lap 13.  From that point on Smyser extended his lead and raced
under the checkered flags picking up his first O'Reilly MLRA win of the
year.  Wells held on for second with Kelly Boen, Alan Vaughn, and eight row
starting Terry Phillips rounding out the top five.

Up next for the O'Reilly MLRA is the final race of the 2006 Thunder Tour

Phillips Completes Capital Federal Savings Late Model Showdown Sweep
By Clint Brown
September 30, 2006

Terry Phillips captured the second night of the Capital Federal Savings Late
Model Showdown and completed the weekend sweep in O'Reilly MLRA action.  The
win marked the tenth of the season for the Springfield, MO driver and his
81st overall with the series.

The caution flag immediately replaced the green as Jason Bodenhamer and
Scott Drake came together on the font stretch.  On the restart pole sitter
Alan Vaughn powered to the front ahead of Brian Harris, Chris Simpson and
John Anderson who battled for second.

Lap four saw Simpson take over the second spot as he moved past Harris only
to hand the spot back on lap nine just behind Vaughn.  Running the low line
Simpson then powered past Vaughn to take over the top spot.  Simpson held on
as the yellow flag for Dave Eckrich's flat tire waved on lap fourteen.

Phillips, who started the race in row ten, used the restart to vault into
the top five and grabbed overtook Vaughn for third on lap eighteen as
Simpson continued to run out front.  Phillips chased down Harris and worked
past on lap twenty four then worked off the bottom to take over the top spot
from Simpson a lap later.

Phillips moved flawlessly through lapped traffic for the remainder of the
event and crossed the line at the finish half a straightaway in front of
second running Harris.  Denny Eckrich moved up in the field to come home
third with Vaughn and Kyle Berck rounding out the top five.

Another big field of 65 cars signed in for the night to compete in seven
heat races which were won by Alan Vaughn, Trent Follmer, Chris Simpson, Ed
Kosiski, Mike Smith, Al Purkey, and John Anderson taking the wins.  Eric
Pember, Kyle Berck, and John Hampel came home with the B Feature wins to
advance to the feature event.

The Capital Federal Savings Late Model Showdown was co-sanctioned with the
Polydome World Dirt Racing League.

Up next for the O'Reilly MLRA is the closing of the 2006 Thunder Tour with a
two night stand at Bolivar Speedway USA on Friday and Saturday, October 6 &

Terry Phillips Grabs Night One of the Capital Federal Savings Late Model
Showdown
By Clint Brown
September 29, 2006

Terry Phillips wired the field as he powered to the Friday night win of the
Capital Federal
Savings Late Model Showdown at Lakeside Speedway with the O'Reilly MLRA.

Phillips motored to the front from the pole position as the green flag
dropped and held off the early race challenge of outside starter John
Hampel.  Behind the front pair Johnny Bone Jr. had his hands full holding
off both Alan Vaughn and Will Vaught for the third position.

Lapped traffic came into play on the seventh lap as Phillips opened up his
lead to nearly a full straight as he went three wide to lap the machines of
Kevin Kile and Dave Eckrich.

Alan Vaughn began his move forward as the powered into the third position on
lap twelve and set chase for Hampel who continued to run in second.  A pair
of laps later Kyle Berck made his presence in the top five while Phillips
had widened the gap to over a full straight away.

Vaughn continued to move forward as he moved past Hampel on lap twenty with
Berck beginning to bear down on the pair.  Lap twenty three would see Berck
make the move past Hampel and take over the third spot.

With a seemingly insurmountable lead, Phillips continued to work lapped
traffic only to have Vaughn begin to close the gap to less than a straight
away from the leader.  The laps wound down just too quickly as Phillips
raced under the checkered flag for his ninth O'Reilly MLRA win of the 2006
season.  Vaughn held on for the second spot with Berck, 20th starting Brian
Harris, and 24th starting Denny Eckrich rounding out the top five positions.

A total of sixty-eight cars signed into the pits to compete in seven heat
races where Scott Drake, Will Vaught, Joe Kosiski, Jeremy Payne, John
Hampel, Terry Phillips, and Johnny Bone Jr. taking the wins.  Ed Kosiski,
Kelly Boen, and Dave Eckrich were able to grab the wins in the three B
Features and continue their evening.

Two scary moments slowed the evening's action with Kurt Kile flipping wildly
on the front stretch at the beginning of the seventh heat race.  Ray Guss
Jr. rode out a violent flip during the first B Feature that destroyed his
machine.  Both drivers walked away from their incidents, but for each their
night was done.

TERRY PHILLIPS WINS AL BODENHAMER MEMORIAL
Todd Turner

ADRIAN, Mo. (Sept. 28) - Taking the lead from Alan Vaughn on the 11th
lap, sixth-starting Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., cruised the
rest of the way at Adrian Speedway for his series-leading eighth
O'Reilly Auto Parts Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory of
the season.

Phillips, who earned $2,500 in winning the fourth annual Al
Bodenhamer Memorial, built leads of more than a straightaway through
the middle stages of the 40-lapper.

His only scare came on the 36th lap when a spinning Jack Simmons
nearly collected Phillips in turn three. The leader was able to slip
past the spinning lapped car as a caution flag appeared and restarted
out front for a four-lap dash to the finish.

Vaughn couldn't muster a charger in the final laps and settled for
second ahead of Jack Sullivan, who started eighth but ran third most
of the way. Series points leader Al Purkey, who started ninth,
finished fourth and rookie Shad Badder's fifth-place finish was the
best of his MLRA career. Polesitter Eric Anderson battled Vaughn for
the first few laps but ended up fading to a seventh-place finish.

David Turner, who finished eighth in the feature, won a special Race
of Champions among winner of 2006 MLRA features.

MLRA competitors head for Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for
Sept. 29-30 action. For O'Reilly MLRA information call 816-650-5063

Adrian Speedway/ Al Bodenhamer Memorial Injured Drivers Fund Established.
Sept 27, 2006

The racing community has long been one to come to the aid of a fallen
member, but until now that wasn't organized until after the need was already
present. Glenn & Colleen Portzen, owners of Adrian Speedway have stepped to
the forefront to help alleviate that with the formation of the Adrian
Speedway/ Al Bodenhamer Memorial Injured Drivers Fund.

"What we have done here is to set up a fund that is available immediately
when the need arises," stated Glenn Portzen. "Whenever something has
happened in the past the racing family has always stepped up with swift
help, but that help has always come after the need. Now with the money
available those in need can receive the help that they need right then."

The Portzens themselves found out just how generous the racing family is
when a fire destroyed their home during the winter. "Our own situation was
one of the things that set things in motion for this fund being set up,"
continued Portzen. "We just could not believe the outpouring that we
received from the racers & their families. They all helped us out & for that
we will be forever grateful & now we just want to give back."

Initial money for the fund will come during the Fourth Annual Al Bodenhamer
Memorial run on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Adrian Speedway & continue on during
the years to come. "We're going to continue to do things during the winter &
the weekly race program at Adrian Speedway to keep this fund growing,"
Portzen continued. "We don't want it to just start & then it sit there - we
want it to grow.

Our dear friend Kenny Wallace has stepped to the pump to help us Thursday
night along with many others from the Cup, Busch & Truck teams. It appears
that a large amount of Chip Ganasi's teams will again be here to help the
cause bringing a total number of our Nascar friends to about forty plus to
be in attendance Thursday night.

The first recipient of the fund will be a former employee of Dirt Works Race
Cars in Walker, MO. Monty Grice who is now working for Chip Ganasi on one of
his Nextel Cup teams. Monty is suffering from pancreas & liver problems &
his local home team people wish to help him in his time of need. So please
help by attending this race Thursday night Sept. 28. Don't miss all the
action & fan autograph sessions starting at 5:30 along with many exciting
things thru out the evening. Gates open at 5:00, hot laps at 7:00, and first
race at 7:30.

Those interested in contributing to the Adrian Speedway/Al Bodenhamer
Memorial Injured Drivers Fund are encouraged to contact Adrian Speedway at
816) 297-4400.

This event is receiving National interest & we hope it will interest Kansas
City the same, as this is its place of origin.

Big Weekend on tap for the O'Reilly MLRA
Clint Brown
September 25, 2006

The O'Reilly MLRA rolls the 2006 Thunder Tour into the Kansas City area with
their high powered ballet for one of the biggest racing weekends of the
year.

Thursday night, September 28, action kicks off with the 4th Annual Al
Bodenhamer Memorial at Adrian Speedway in Adrian, MO.  The event, first run
in 2003, has seen some tight racing action where Alan Vaughn (2003) and
David Turner (2004) took home top honors on a night honoring a true
ambassador of the sport.  The 2005 running of the event saw the rains come
and wash away the night.  The evening also has a second honoree as the Jack
Vaughn Memorial Dash of Champions will also roll onto the 1/3 mile dirt to
see who can come out on top.  Al Purkey rolls into the weekend with the
point lead and looking for his fifth O'Reilly MLRA championship.  Not one to
give up Alan Vaughn has been doing his best to chase down Purkey while
holding off the challenge of David Turner, CJ Lyle, and Jason Bodenhamer.
Gates open Thursday at 5:00 pm with racing set to roll of at 7:00 pm.
General admission tickets are only $15.00 with kids 6-12 $6.00 while those 5
& under are free.  Pit passes for the night are only $25.00.  Adrian
Speedway is located 2.5 miles north of SR 18 on US 71 then .5 miles west on
CR AA.

The weekend then rolls to the north a bit as the Capital Federal Late Model
Showdown takes to the track at Lakeside Speedway on Friday and Saturday,
September 29 and 30.  The event, co-sanctioned with the WDRL, draws some of
the top late model chauffeurs in the Midwest clamoring for the top spot and
the big check.  Denny Eckrick and Kyle Berck found themselves on top of the
heap in 2005 as they bested the field which drew over 70 cars both nights.
The action kicks off both nights with gates opening at 5:00 pm and racing
action set to take to the track at 7:30 pm.  Advance general admission
tickets are available for $20.00 with pricing being $25.00 at the gate.
Lakeside Speedway is located on I-425 to exit 18 then 1 mile NW on SR5.

Jeremy Payne grabs O'Reilly MLRA win at LA Raceway
Clint Brown
September 16, 2006

The O'Reilly MLRA rolled into LA Raceway on Friday night for the second 2006
visit to the central Missouri facility and young Jeremy Payne battled his
way through the field to take his second series win in a row.

Steve Kosiski lead the field to the green flag and moved to the front at the
drop of the green with a hungry Scott Drake nipping at his heels.  The front
pair put on a spirited side by side battle that had the fans on their feet
with Drake pulling off the move and taking over the top spot on the fourth
lap.

The caution flag flew with seven laps in the books for the spun machine of
Shane Essary in turn 1.  On the restart Drake and Kosiski continued out
front followed by sixth starting Payne, Ken Essary, and Al Purkey.  Behind
the front group Alan Vaughn and David Turner began to battle side by side,
but the driver catching everybody's attention was John Hampel who had moved
into tenth after coming through the nights B feature.

Lap 12 saw the field slowed by the yellow once again as Scott Daly slid his
car over the turn three banking.  On the restart Kosiski stepped up the
pressure on Drake a notch and pulled alongside as he attempted to make the
pass.  The pair ran side by side for a couple of laps before Drake pulled
back out in front and retained the spot.

Payne began his move forward as he took over the second spot from Kosiski on
lap 17 and quickly pulled onto the rear bumper of Drake.  On lap 23 the trio
of Drake, Payne, and Kosiski ran nose to tail as they began to encounter
lapped traffic only to have the yellow slow the racing action once again and
regroup the field.

As the green replaced the yellow Drake and Payne opened a four car length
advantage over Kosiski as the laps began to wind down.  Payne pulled
alongside Drake and completed the move to lead the 27th lap and quickly
opened up a four car gap as the white flag waved and increased it even more
as he raced under the checkered flag for the win.  Drake held on for the
runner up spot with Kosiski, Ken Essary, and Al Purkey completing the top 5.

Thirty-two cars signed in to compete on the night with Drake, Ken Essary,
Payne, and Kosiski coming home with the heat race wins while John Hampel
grabbed the top spot of the nights B feature.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is to Winston Speedway in Winston, MO on
Saturday, September 16 to close out the facilities 2006 racing action.

Jeremy Payne captures first O'Reilly MLRA win
Clint Brown
September 10, 2006

For the fourth time during the 2006 Thunder Tour the O'Reilly MLRA made the
trip in to Wheatland, MO and a visit to Lucas Oil Speedway.  When the
checkered flag Springfield, MO's Jeremy Payne notched his first O'Reilly
MLRA victory as well as his first late model triumph.

Current O'Reilly MLRA points leader Al Purkey lead the field down to the
green and jumped out to the lead with Leslie Essary following through into
the second spot.  While Purkey opened up a slight lead Essary began to take
on some heavy pressure from Alan Vaughn who was working the high side to his
advantage, but just couldn't quite complete the pass.  The field bunched up
for a lap 3 caution when Randy McGraw's drive shaft exited his machine
leaving it wounded in turn 1.

On the restart Vaughn quickly went back to the high side and shot around
Essary and set out to track down Purkey who had opened a six car length
advantage on the field.  Two laps later Vaughn had worked up to Purkey's
rear bumper while Leslie Essary had also tracked down the leaders to make it
a three way battle for the lead.  The spun car of Johnny Fennewald brought
out the caution on lap 13 and as the field went back to green Vaughn once
again used the high side and captured the lead from Purkey.  Behind the
front two a fierce three way battle between Essary, Scott Drake, and Jeremy
Payne brewed as the trio went three wide with Drake coming out on top and
the third position.  Drake and Payne then began to battle side by side for
the second spot as Vaughn continued to cruise around the high side of the
track.

The yellow flew again on lap 18 and on the restart Payne used the high side
to his advantage to take over second.  Coming off of turn four Payne got a
run on Vaughn and moved inside of him coming down the front stretch only to
have Drake make it a three wide battle and they headed off down into turn 1.
Payne came out of the middle to take over the lead with Drake right on his
bumper while Vaughn dropped to third.

Payne continued to lead the way with Drake behind him holding off the
challenge of Essary who had moved past Vaughn for the third spot.  Drake
kept challenging Payne on the low side, but the momentum that Payne carried
off the corners allowed him to keep the lead and hold off Drake for the win
with Essary, Vaughn, and Mark Voigt rounding out the top five at the finish.

A total of 43 cars signed into the pits with the four heat races being won
by Vaughn, Johnny Fennewald, Payne, and L. Essary.  Two B Features saw CJ
Lyle and Steve Grotz take the wins to transfer on to the feature event.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a double header weekend with visits to LA
Raceway in LaMonte, MO on Friday, September 15, and then Winston Speedway in
Winston, MO on Saturday, September 16.

Clint Brown
September 7, 2006

The O'Reilly MRLA drivers and officials will descend on the quiet town of
Wheatland, MO as they invade the "Diamond of the Dirt Tracks" Lucas Oil
Speedway on Saturday, September 9.

The O'Reilly MLRA has paid visit to Lucas Oil Speedway three prior times
during the 2006 Thunder Tour and some of the tightest racing action of the
year has been witnessed.  On the first visit to the track Justin Wells took
home his first ever O'Reilly MLRA win when he edged out Oklahoma resident
Mike Brown by a mere .056 seconds at the line.  Wells will be hoping to make
a repeat trip to the Lucas Oil Victory Lane, but will be challenged by some
of the Midwest toughest competitors including MLRA points leader Al Purkey,
Alan Vaughn, David Turner, Jason Bodenhamer, Johnny Bone Jr., David Barker
and the rest of the O'Reilly MLRA competitors.

The Lucas Oil Speedway gates will open at 5:00 pm with racing action set to
roll onto the track at 7:00 pm.  Adult admission for the night is only
$18.00 with Seniors and Teens (12-17) set at $12.00.  Children 11 and under
are free while pit passes will cost $25.00.  Also seeing action on the night
will be the modified, factory stock, pure stock, and outlaw figure 8
classes.

Bodenhamer on top at Salina Speedway
Clint Brown
September 3, 2006

A long dry spell came to an end on Saturday night as Jason Bodenhamer picked
up his first win of the 2006 O'Reilly MLRA Thunder Tour at Salina Speedway
in Salina, KS.  The last O'Reilly MLRA victory for Bodenhamer came in the
season opening event of 2005.

From outside row one Bodenhamer jumped to the lead over polesitter Al Purkey
at the drop of the green flag and quickly opened up a sizeable lead.
Following a caution period that bunched the field back up Bodenhamer was
once again able to open up a full straight lead over Purkey, but the gap
began to close as the leaders began to work lapped traffic.  With Purkey
beginning to run down Bodenhamer for the lead he also began to encounter
heavy pressure from the third running Kelly Boen.  The top three would
distance themselves from the rest of the pack while battling for position
that would find them three wide in turns 1 & 2 of the final lap.  Bodenhamer
was able to come up with the bite that he needed powering off the turn and
holding the lead to the line to pick up the hard fought win.  Purkey held
off Boen for second with Earl Kinderknecht and David Turner rounding out the
top five at the finish.

A total of thirty-seven cars signed in for the event where Johnny Bone Jr.,
Al Purkey, David Turner, and Jim Beamon took home top honors in the heat
races.  Larry Clawson and Mike Conkwright found the lines that they needed
and held on for the two B Feature wins to transfer on to the feature event.

Next on tap for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to Lucas Oil Speedway in
Wheatland, MO on Saturday, September 9 as the 2006 O'Reilly MLRA Thunder
Tour continues to wind down.

Terry Phillips collects Missouri State Championships win
Clint Brown
August 21, 2006

Terry Phillips rolled into State Fair Speedway with one thing on his mind -
collecting the $3,000 O'Reilly MLRA winner's check and the Missouri State
Championships crown.  When the dust had cleared Phillips had done just what
he set out to do, but it wasn't easy as he racked up his 78th career
O'Reilly MLRA victory.

When the green flag dropped pole sitter Al Purkey quickly jumped to the
front of the pack with Phillips hot on his tail as the two quickly began to
separate themselves from the rest of the field.  Phillips tried several
moves to get around Purkey, but each time he was unable to make the move
stick and settled back into the second position.  The laps began to count
down with the front two continuing to set a torrid pace and then heartbreak
set in for Purkey as his machine slowed down the backstretch on the eleventh
circuit allowing Phillips to take over the top spot.  Purkey coasted into
the pits with a hurt motor and would be done for the night.  Once out front
Phillips continued to hold a dominating lead while behind him began a battle
with Denny Eckrich moving through the field and picking up positions on a
consistent basis.  Eckrich moved past Chris Smyser and David Turner to step
into the runner up position late in the race, but didn't have enough time to
run down race leader Phillips and came across the line second.  Following
Phillips and Eckrich across the line were David Turner, Chris Smyser, and
Chad Clark to complete the top five of the thirty lap feature event.

Three heat races were run with Purkey, Phillips and Smyser picking up those
wins while Sonny Findling grabbed the B Feature honors to continue his
evening.

Up next for the O'Reilly MLRA is a weekend off before heading to Salina
Speedway in Salina, KS on September 2.

Scott Drake grabs first O'Reilly MLRA win of 2006
Clint Brown
August 12, 2006

Scott Drake took advantage of an early race restart to take over the top
spot and held on for his first O'Reilly MLRA win of the 2006 season.

The green flag waved with Larry Clawson on the pole, but it was Jason
Bodenhamer who powered around the outside of turns 1 and 2 to take command
of the field as they raced down the backstretch.  Behind Bodenhamer a flurry
of action saw Scott Drake move into second from outside of row two and
quickly began to apply pressure to Bodenhamer.  The top two began running
side by side with Drake utilizing the low side and Bodenhamer riding the rim
of the track.  Chris Smyser grabbed the third spot on lap three and quickly
made his presence felt with the top two.  The caution flew on lap 4 and with
Bodenhamer still out front  and he was able to hold onto the spot on the
restart.  Shane Essary slowed with a flat right front tire on lap 7 where
Drake was able to make that low line to work on the restart to work past
Bodenhamer and take over the top spot.  Drake moved out to a four car length
advantage as Smyser and Bodenhamer battled side by side for second behind
him as they began to work lapped traffic on lap 11.  The yellow waved on lap
12 for the slowing car of Brett LaFollette and on the restart David Turner
showed that he would have to be reckoned with as well when he moved into the
third spot with Al Purkey following him through after starting the feature
in the twelfth position.  A red flag waved on lap a few laps later as the
Smyser machine began a slow spin in turn 2 which collected Jimmy Morris,
Shane Essary, and Kevin Coyne behind him.  Essary and Smyser retired to the
pits while Coyne and Morris were able to continue on.  On the restart Drake
opened up an eight car length advantage which he held to the finish with
Bodenhamer, Turner, Purkey and 17th starting Alan Vaughn rounding out the
top five.

Three heat races were run on the evening with Jimmy Morris, Jason Bodenhamer
and Scott Drake taking the wins and Alan Vaughn captured the B Feature.

Boen captures O'Reilly MLRA Victory
Clint Brown
August 6, 2006

Kelly Boen made the best of the trip from his Colorado home as he picked up
the victory when the O'Reilly MLRA visited Junction Motor Speedway on
Saturday night.  The win was Boen's sixth career O'Reilly MLRA win and moved
him into a tie for tenth place on the all time win list with the series.

Boen started on the pole for the 30 lap main event and quickly powered his
way to the front of the field.  Surviving several yellow flags and pressure
from behind Boen was able to hold on for the entire distance to pick up the
win with Al Purkey, Steve Kosiski, Johnny Bone, Jr., and David Turner
completing the top five at the line.

In addition to the $3,000 winner's share Boen also picked up the AFCO M2
Bonus money which saw him bring in an additional $5,000 from the folks at
AFCO bringing his total for the night to $8,000.  The Junction Motor
Speedway event was the second and final AFCO M2 Bonus event for the O'Reilly
MLRA during the 2006 Thunder Tour.  To be eligible for the AFCO M2 bonus the
winner of selected events had to run the new AFCO M2 Shocks along with
AFCOIL Coil-Over Springs.

Up next for the O'Reilly MLRA is another double dip weekend with a stop to
Valley Speedway, in Grain Valley, MO, on Friday night August 11.  The next
night will see the series head towards the north and a stop at Scotland
County Speedway, in Memphis, MO, on Saturday, August 12.

Phillips comes out on top at Salina Highbanks Speedway
Clint Brown
July 22, 2006

For the 77th time in the career of the O'Reilly MLRA Terry Phillips took
home the checkered flag as the grabbed the win at Salina Highbanks Speedway
on Friday night.  Phillips lead from start to finish as he continued to add
to his career leading wins total.

The green flag waved over the field with Phillips and outside row one
starter Shane Essary quickly powering to the front where Phillips quickly
built up his lead over Essary.  The 15E of Essary began to slightly reel in
Phillips on several occasions only to have the 75P of Phillips pull back
away every time and race to the end and garner the checkered flag.  Essary
held on for the second position with Justin Wells, Steve Rushin, and David
Turner rounding out the top five.

Phillips and Essary were joined by Bartlesville, OK driver Terry Melton with
heat race wins earlier in the night.

The O'Reilly MLRA jumps right back into action on Saturday, July 22, as they
pay visit to Lucas Oil Speedway to run with the Lucas Oil Late Models at the

O'Reilly MLRA Points Standings
Clint Brown
July 15, 2006

The 2006 O'Reilly MLRA Thunder Tour rolls on and as the series approaches
the halfway point drivers and crews begin to think more and more about the
championship points standings.

Defending and four time champion Al Purkey leads the way in hopes of
becoming the first five time champion in series history.  Purkey, of
Coffeyville, KS, picked up back to back wins when the O'Reilly MLRA made
stops at Winston Speedway and Adrian Speedway on April 8 (Winston) and May
13 (Adrian).  A consistent string of top 10 finishes has allowed Purkey to
build a point lead that currently stands at 96 markers ahead of second place
in the standings with 911 points.

Currently holding down the number two position is the only other four time
series champion - Alan Vaughn.  Hailing from Belton, MO, Vaughn is still
looking for his first victory of 2006, but a recent rash of strong runs
along with a new car have Vaughn and his team knocking on the door.  Like
Purkey, Vaughn is looking to become the first five time champion having
taken the title in 1995, 2002, 2003, and 2004 which also gives him the
distinction of being the only driver to have taken three titles in a row.

Creighton, MO's David Turner sits in the third position event after missing
one event due to the wedding of his daughter.  Turner came away with a third
place points finish in 2005 and is looking to improve on that finish.  Also
looking to turn his season around, Turner is looking toward the second half
of the season to pick up his first win of the 2006 Thunder Tour after
several close calls.

David Barker holds down the fourth position in what is his best season with
the O'Reilly MLRA to date.  On several occasions Barker and his team from
Kingsville, MO have been right in the mix for the win only to have one thing
or another happen to keep him from that elusive first victory.  Sitting only
ten points behind Turner in third, Barker looks to continue a string of
consistent finishes that have kept him towards the top of the standings the
entire season.

Rounding out the top ten in the current point standings are Oklahoma
residents Charlie Randolph and Mike Brown followed by CJ Lyle, Jimmy Morris,
Terry Phillips and Chris Smyser.

Phillips has proven himself a tough one to beat as he has taken wins in five
of seven races that he has competed in during the 2006 season.  In addition
to the two victories by Purkey wins have been notched by Billy Moyer, Shane
Essary, Steve Kosiski, John Anderson, Justin Wells, and Jeff Taylor.

Jeff Taylor finds way to O'Reilly MLRA Winner's Circle
Clint Brown
July 9, 2006

Jeff Taylor made his trip up from Arkansas a fruitful one as he held on to
take the 40 lap O'Reilly MLRA feature event at Lake Ozark Speedway, in
Eldon, MO, on Saturday night.  This was the second ever O'Reilly MLRA
feature event win for Taylor.

Taylor blasted past second place running Bill Frye just past the halfway
mark of the event and then worked past race long leader Leslie Essary in the
late stages of the race.  From that point on Taylor held on for the win with
Frye working his way to second, Leslie Essary, Terry Phillips, and Shane
Essary rounded out the top five at the finish.

Heat race wins went to Leslie Essary, Al Purkey, Justin Wells, and Bill Frye
as 33 cars signed into the pits for the night.  Terry Phillips and Jordan
Jones captured the two B features to continue their evening.

Up next is a break in the action for the O'Reilly MLRA followed up by a trip
to the highbanks - Salina Highbank Speedway that is, on July 21.

O'Reilly MLRA clean sweep for Terry Phillips
Clint Brown
July 4, 2006

Terry Phillips made the holiday weekend trip with the O'Reilly MLRA a
fruitful one as he picked up the win on Monday night at Lucas Oil Speedway
in Wheatland, MO.  For Phillips it made win number five on the season and
number seventy-six overall with the series.

Four-time O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn lead the field down to the
green and outgunned Larry Jones for the top spot as they raced into the
first turn.  Behind him saw Jones fight to keep his spot as both Terry
Phillips and Al Purkey came into the fray making it a three wide battle for
second with Purkey coming out with the position.  A lap later Phillips
worked his way past Purkey to take over second and set sail for Vaughn who
had built up a lead of nearly ten car lengths by that time.  Working the
high side of the track, Phillips tracked down Vaughn and was able to take
over the top spot coming off of turn four.  A caution slowed the field on
lap eight and Johnny Bone began to make some noise as he battled side by
side with Purkey.  The yellow flew when Bone and Purkey came together and
Purkey spun to a stop in turn two on lap 10.  On the restart Vaughn was
giving Phillips a challenge for first, but Bone was not to be denied and
moved around on lap 12.  Not one to give up Vaughn kept the pressure on Bone
and took the position back just prior to the halfway point of the 40 lap
event.  It was also this point where Shane Essary threw his name into the
hat and moved into the top five after starting the feature eighteenth on the
grid.  Another slowdown on lap 28 saw the field bunch up with Bone looking
to make his way around Phillips, but Phillips held the advantage as Vaughn
slipped high trying to keep pace and slid back several positions.  Bone
continued the pressure, but Phillips was able to pull out to a four
carlength lead and held on as the checkered flags flew.  Bone held on for
second with Steve Rushin, 24th starting Jason Bodenhamer, and Scott Drake
rounding out the top five rundown.

Forty-two cars signed into the pits at Lucas Oil Speedway with Bone,
Phillips, Vaughn, and Purkey taking the heat race wins.  Steve Rushin took
the win in the first B feature while Shane Essary won the second B feature.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is the rescheduled event at Lake Ozark
Speedway in Eldon, MO on Saturday, July 8.

the year.  Justin Wells and Mike Brown brought the fans to their feet as
they christened the track with some thrilling side by side action with Wells

night for the facility.  Brown will be looking to move up a notch and work

O'Reilly MLRA Lake Ozark Speedway stopped washed out
Clint Brown
June 17, 2006

Heavy late showers that hit Lake Ozark Speedway caused the running of the
O'Kelly MLRA vs. MARS event to be postponed to a later date.  Track crews
were getting the track into shape when the rainfall hit that was just to
much to overcome for the night.

"We were really looking forward to getting our first ever event in here at
Lake Ozark Speedway," stated Harriett Chancellor.  "Looking through the pits
there was a real stout field of cars so the fans would have been treated to
a another great night of racing."

Track personnel along with the O'Reilly MLRA and MARS groups will announce
the rescheduled date once it has been finalized.

Terry Phillips adds another O'Reilly MLRA win to his resume
Clint Brown
June 17, 2006

Terry Phillips made his initial visit to Lebanon Midway Speedway a fruitful
one as he grabbed his 74th O'Reilly MLRA win on Friday night.

Dewaine Hottinger held down the pole position and quickly jumped out to the
early lead only to have Ken Essary and Al Purkey stalking his every move
looking to take over the top spot.  An early caution for Bryan Allison's
spun machine bunched the field up and on the restart David Barker moved
around Essary and Purkey to take over second and begin his own challenge of
Hottinger for first.  Behind Barker the group of Essary, Purkey, Terry
Phillips, and Alan Vaughn waged their own battle for the third position as
that group began to work on Barker heavily.  Barker began to slip back
slightly which allowed Purkey to regain the runner-up position and once
again attempt to get past Hottinger as he continued to pace the field out
front.  While Hottinger and Purkey battled it out Phillips was able to work
his way into the third position just prior to the caution flag that waved on
lap 17.  On that restart Purkey moved to the middle of the track, but once
again Hottinger was able to hold off his advances.  Lap 21 saw the battle
tighten up even further as Purkey once again came alongside Hottinger only
to find Phillips take the racing three wide as he continued to work the top
side of the track.  As the trio raced three wide down the front stretch
Phillips was able to take over the position as they raced into turn one with
Purkey following him through relegating Hottinger back to the third spot.
Purkey had a late race chance to challenging Phillips when a caution flag
waved, but Phillips pulled away from the pack as the green flag waved and
raced on to the checkered flag with Purkey holding on for second.
Hottinger, Ken Essary, and 14th starting Dane Daucus rounding out the top
five at the line.

Thirty cars signed into the Lebanon Midway Speedway pits with Phillips,
Hottinger, Purkey, and Ken Essary taking the heat race wins.  The most
recent O'Reilly MLRA winner, Justin Wells, took top honors in the B feature
and was able to keep his night moving along.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a visit to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO
on Saturday, June 17.

Justin Wells picks up first O'Reilly MLRA victory at Lucas Oil Speedway
Clint Brown
June 11, 2006

Excitement surrounded the grand opening of the new Lucas Oil Speedway and
when the final checkered flag fell Justin Wells found himself with another
reason to be excited - his first ever O'Reilly MRLA win.

The initial green flag flew and Jeff Floyd jumped out to the lead from the
pole position, but the yellow came out as the field raced down the back
stretch.  Alan Vaughn slowed coming off of turn 2 which created a bottleneck
that found CJ Lyle and Billy Murphy caught up in a wreck that ended their
evening.  Steve Kosiski also had to make a quick trip to the pits for
repairs after making it through the wreck with slight damage.  On the
complete restart Floyd once again jumped out to the lead with Scott Drake
and Mike Brown falling in behind him.  On lap 4 Floyd slipped up coming out
of turn two and brushed the wall which allowed Drake to power past and into
the lead.  Floyd was able to continue on, but was under heavy pressure from
Brown in the third spot.  On lap 6 Brown made the move stick as he raced
past Floyd and quickly moved up on Drake to take the lead.  With 12 laps in
the books Justin Wells put his name into the frontrunner at as he moved into
fourth spot and then into the third spot before the caution came out for the
spun machine of Charlie Randolph on lap 15.

John Hampel pulled his machine into the infield under the caution which
moved Wells up to third on the restart.  Wells made the move on Drake for
second with a high line move coming off of turn 4 and was able to take the
position.  Lap 20 found Steve Kosiski on a march to the front as he moved
into fifth after starting from the back of the back from the initial caution
of the race.  Wells began to work the high side to get around Brown on lap
24 and took the top spot a lap later as Kosiski also worked his way around
Floyd for the fourth spot.  Lap 28 saw Floyd slip another spot as Al Purkey
moved into the top 5 after starting the night off in the 17th spot.  Brown
got a run on Wells coming off of turn four with the white flag waving and
the pair ran side by side as they headed off into turn one.  Going down the
back stretch and into turn three neither driver had a clear advantage and
the drag race was on coming off turn four.  Brown held the slight advantage,
but Wells was able to get the run off the high side and crossed the line
mere inches ahead of Brown for the win.  Scott Drake held on for third with
Steve Kosiski and Al Purkey rounding out the top five at the finish.

A total of thirty-nine cars signed in with Jimmy Morris, Jeff Floyd, Scott
Drake, and Mike Brown coming out on top of the four heat races.  Al Purkey
and CJ Lyle came home with the wins in the two B features to make their way
into the A.  The winner of the Performance Bodies Nose Piece was Brett
LaFollette while Al Purkey came home with the Weld Wheels Hard Charger
Award.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO on
Friday, June 16, and the first trip for the series to Lake Ozark Speedway in
Eldon, MO on Saturday, June 17.<
