( Grand Junction, CO) Jeep Berry was a man on a mission in 2007, and that mission was to be the outright WDRA champion for 2007, after a very close points chase last season, which Dean Moore won by 3 points. Jeep accomplished that mission in a dominating fashion, sealing the deal with another feature win at the Emery Hooker Memorial race Saturday at Thunder Mountain Speedway. Jeep won all but two Features in 2007,
losing once to last year's champion, Dean Moore, and once to Arkansas's Jeff Taylor at the 1st Snap-On Dealers 4 Corners Shoot Out at Aztec Speedway. That means the Jeep bested the field of cars for 8 out of 10 races this season, finishing with 877 points.
The Western Dirt Racing Association CONGRATULATES JEEP BERRY for his great performances this season. A very big thank you goes out to all the fans, families, friends and drivers!
The WDRA Championship banquet will be December 1st.

Here is how the top 15 in WDRA points for 2007 came out:

(Olathe, CO) The Western Dirt Racing Association wrapped up the 2007 Racing season Saturday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway with the 2nd Annual 'Emery Hooker Memorial'. This was a $1500 to win event that was a planned celebration of the man who's love of dirt track racing was shared with everyone he knew around Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. Emery passed away last season at Thunder Mountain Speedway, doing what he loved to do, and being around the friends and family that made dirt track racing a way of life for many. On this night Mother Nature, however, did not cooperate with anyone. The day was a very windy and cool one, with everyone fighting wind gusts in the 40+ m.p.h. range. Track owner Sean Gibbs and his crew prepared the track as best they could, fighting the loose soil and high winds. As race time rolled around, a big storm cloud joined the melee, making everyone wonder if the races would get run or not.
Sixteen WDRA Dirt Late Models came out for the event, and a few of the drivers and car got tangled up in turn 2 during hot laps, with Corey Smith getting the worse of the deal, and his night ending before it really even began. Heat One rolled onto the track with out the 27 of Mike McGinn, who had fuel cell problems during hot laps. The heat was won by the 75B of Jeep Berry, with 2007 Rookie Kyle Hill racing from last beat the 29A of Jason Davis at the line for second by about a foot. Dan Shepherd and Bob Cook rounded out the top 5.
Heat 2 was missing it's Pole Sitter, Curt Daniels, and the car that was to start behind him , Corey Smith. This moved the 05 of Gary DeChant to the pole and shuffled the line up around. Heat Two was won by Gary DeChant, followed by the 40 of Aztec, NM's Jeff Davis. Davis edged out Dean Moore coming out of turn four, and Terry Boushee and Andy Hill rounded out the top five.
The WDRA had planned a great salute to Emery Hooker with the presentation of trophies for the Hooker family, however, the the high winds, cold temperatures and the ever impending threat of rain, the WDRA and Thunder Mountain Speedway simply allowed David Hooker to say a few words, so everyone could get home to a warm dry place. The rain started to fall as the 14 drivable machines took to the track for the main event, and the late models ran some laps to work the moisture in as the rain stopped. The Feature was marred by two multi car wrecks, one on lap two, and the second on lap three. The race ended with 2007 WDRA Points Champion, Jeep Beery,  winning yet another feature, and giving the fans a great show. Coming in second was Gary Dechant, followed by the 3C of Curt Daniels, who over came an early race incident and raced from last to third, even though he was one of the cars that wrecked in hot laps and missed his heat race. Fourth place was occupied by Racin Jason Davis in his 29A Rayburn. In fifth was last year WDRA Champion Dean Moore, who over came many adversities this year, both on and off the track, and ended the season in the runner up spot in the points chase. The sixth place spot was filled by Kyle Hill, and in 7th, his first night out in a late model, was Scott Aibner, from Rifle, CO. Rounding out the top ten were Mike McGinn, Jeff Davis and Andy Hill.

The WDRA will be gearing up for a bigger and better season in 2008 and hope to see new fans and drivers join us for some great racing action. The WDRA would like to thank all of the drivers, their families and the fans for their support.
Hope to see you all next year!!

(Grand Junction, CO) The Western Dirt Racing Association will wrap up the 2007 season with the 'Emory Hooker' Memorial Race. This event will pay $1500 to the winner, and $200 to start the feature! Our 2007 series champion will also be crowned, with Jeep Berry holding a 61 point lead over last year's champion Dean Moore. Curt Daniels, Mike McGinn, and Jason Davis round out the top five.
The last event of the WDRA 2007 season is coming up on Saturday September 29th at Thunder Mountain Speedway and while some might find this to be just another race, some people will find this race is a way to memorialize one of the biggest supporters of Western Slope racing to ever grace the region.

Emery Hooker came from the old school, tracks like Cactus Park in Grand Junction and Delta Speedway in Delta CO. or Moab Raceway in Moab Utah, when the Utah Colorado Racing Body was around. Either way he was there and everyone knew it because he took the time to go up to each driver to talk and do a little bench racing or just give the much needed word of advice.

Last year Emery was wondering the pits, talking to friends like so many years before but he never made it to the end of the pits, he suffered a major heart attack and was gone just that quick. Emery had lost his lovely wife to cancer some time before but he continued to follow racing when he could.

He and his son David got into drag racing where again he had a major impact on every life he touched. Emery was the biggest Dale Sr. fan you could find, and he loved the greatest football team on the planet, the Denver Broncos.

From the inception of the WDRA he was a huge supporter of its staff, its drivers, and the fans and in his honor at the end of each season the “Emery Hooker Memorial Race” will be the last race run saving the best, for the last. The WDRA Staff and drivers are better people to have known Emery and racing as a whole is just a bit lesser in the loss of this great, great man.

If you or anyone you know can make the show on the 29th of this month make time to do so and when you’re there take time to listen, Emery may have some advice or a set-up trick for you and your crew still to this day.

This race promises to be an exciting affair, with cooler weather and a wet week helping to make for a very racy track. Thunder Mountain Speedway is 5 miles south of Delta, CO on U.S. Hwy 50, about 60 minutes south of Grand Junction.

(Aztec, NM) On the first day of September, 25 Super Dirt Late Models converged on the town of Aztec from all over Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and even Arkansas. They were greeted by the Aztec Speedway for the First $2000 to win Snap-On Dealers 4 Corners Late Model Shootout. The fans were hungry to see the late models, as it has been way too long since the late models have taken the track.
The track is a beautiful facility sitting just south of Aztec and is one of the most technolgically advanced tracks around with it use of transponders and it's scoring tower for all to see. The fans gave a roar of approval when the late models came out for hot laps.
Heat one rolled onto the track with Curt Daniels of Paonia, CO on the pole. Outside of him was Brad Williams from Tuscon, AZ. Our far traveller of the night was Jeff Taylor from Cave City, AR, as he was piloting the 1C machine of of Ft Morgan, CO's Jim Clifton. Current WDRA points leader, Jeep Berry started the first heat from the 8th position as the green flag flew.
Heat one was won by the 75B of Berry as he showed the fans why he has won 7 of 8 features this year. He was followed to the checkered flag by Jeff Taylor as Taylor set a new track record of 14.83 as scored by the transponders around the 1/3 mile oval. Coming in third was the 3C of Curt Daniels with The 9 of Randy Carder and and the 23 of Brad Williams rounding out the top five.
Heat two came out with Lonnie Parker Jr of Phoenix, AZ and Aurora, CO's Terry Boushee on the front row. Heat two finished finished with those two in the top two spots, while Utah's Corey Smith was third, Hometown Driver Jeff Davis was fourth, while Grand Junction, CO's 29A of Jason Davis was fifth.
As the final heat drove onto the track lead by the 5B of Butch Reid and the 38 of WDRA regular Jesse Dimmick, fans were waiting to see what defending WDRA champion Dean Moore would be doing from his 5th place starting position.
Butch Reid was able to hold off a hard charging Dean Moore for the win, while Jesse Dimmick held onto the 3rd spot and Mike McGinn came in fourth with the 48 of Lonnie Parker Sr rounding out the top 5.
These results set up a 6 lap, 6 car pole dash that was a full throttle afair. Jeep started on the pole, and for the first time this season did not keep it for the finish. It was the suprising run of Arkasas' Jeff Taylor, sitting in the 1C for the first time tonight, that took the pole for the feature. Dean Moore got the outside spot in the from row, while row two hosted Jeep and Butch with Terry Boushee and Lonnie Parker Jr filling the third row.
As the feature lineup rolled onto the track around 11PM, the fans were given the 4 wide salute for welcoming the late models back to Aztec Speedway. The feature start was marred by many cautions, which saw Jeep Berry flaten a tire and be delegated to the rear, and finally ended with the 5B of Reid going out on the hook. As the green laps began to tick off, Taylor held a commanding lead over Moore, while the 75B slowly picked off positions working his way toward the front. More cautions flew as the track became dry and slick, with the top five not changing until the closing laps as Jeep Berry worked his way toward the front.
Jeff Taylor took home the $2000 prize finishing 5 car lengths ahead of Moore. Lonnie Parker Jr had worked his was into 3rd as the cars diced through lapped traffic, with Berry finishing a respectable 4th. The top ten were rounded out by Curt Daniels in 5th, Terry Boushee in sixth, Randy Carder edging out Brad Williams for 7th, with Parker Sr in 9th and Jason Davis in 10th.
The WDRA would like to thank the Snap-On Dealers for helping Aztec Speedway put on this great event. For more information and pictures later this week, be sure to check out the WDRA website at www.wdra.net or become a friend of the WDRA at myspace.com/western_dirt_racing_assoc

Dean Moore returns to Victory Lane

By: Tom Freimann

(Olathe, CO) On the weekend of the of the annual Olathe Sweet Corn Festival, the WDRA Super Dirt Late Models came to town to put on a show at Thunder Mountain Speedway. New Track Promoter Sean Gibbs made sure that the track had a presence at the festival, and Jeep Berry was kind enough to have a car on display to show the soon to be fans what was going to be making the noise later that night. The track had a late afternoon shower move through that added much needed moisture to the usually dusty track. The late rain delayed the racing start, but it was well worth the wait, and the fans were not disappointed as the Late Models took to the track for their heat races.

Heat One was a full throttle event as Mike McGinn was on the pole and keep out in front of the pack to take the win. He was followed to the checkers by a hard charging Dan Shepherd, who ran the entire race on 3 wheels. Coming in third was Racin Jason Davis in his 29A, Jeep Berry raced from last to 4th on the wet and slick track with Kyle Hill rounding out the top 5. Andy Hill's night ended in the first heat as he broke his transmission and drive train, and was forced to sit out the rest of the night, spending his time helping his fellow drivers get their machines ready for the feature.
Heat Two found Jesse Dimick on the pole with Dean Moore driving his once again black car called Mojo on the outside. Dean ran away with the heat win, running again full throttle around the 1/3 oval. Coming in second was Helper, UT's number 15 machine of Corey Smith, with Terry Boushee, Jesse Dimick and Michael Wright rounding out the Top 5.

The 4 lap pole dash lined up with the top 4 cars in passing points from the heats, and once again Dean took advantage of the tacky track conditions, running his 14m Rayburn Race Car at full power to give the fans a heck of a race. The first caution of the year during a Pole Dash came out on lap 3 as the 68 of Dan Shepherd and the 27 of Mike McGinn got together in turn two, giving Shepard a flat left rear, and putting McGinn to the back. That gave Corey Smith the front row outside starting position for the feature.

The Late Models rolled on the best track of the year for the 25 lap feature, and gave the fans a 4 wide salute for coming out. At the drop of the green, the late models roared to life, with Dean taking the lead and moving out on the pack until a caution on lap 15 brought the pack back together. Jeep Berry, who has won every feature race this season, and started the feature in 7th place, and was up to 3rd by the time the caution came out. As the green flag flew, Jeep had worked up to 2nd, and was gaining on Moore, looking to keep his perfect record alive. Another caution flag came out as Jesse Dimick spun into the infield and he collected the 27 of McGinn, as Mcginn was trying to take second back from Berry. The hard hit sent McGinn airborne on the front stretch and heavily damaged McGinn's race car. As the green came out again, Moore wiggled off of the hook that Berry was reeling him in with, and scored his first Feature win of the season. Corey Smith got past Berry in the last few laps to take home the runner up spot, followed by Berry. In fourth was the #93 of Aurora, CO's Terry Boushee, and the 3C of Curt Daniels, who came from the last starting position to finish 5th. Rounding out the 10 ten were the 05 of Gary Dechant, Kyle Hill, Ron Lengel, Dan Shepherd, and Rifle, CO's Michael Wright.

It was a fabulous night of racing, with no dust and a great tacky track for the racers to play on.

The WDRA will be in action next Saturday as they travel back to Desert
Thunder Speedway in Price, UT. After that the WDRA Super Dirt Late Models will be heading to Aztec, NM on September 1st for the $2000 to win, $250 to start, Snap-On Dealers Late Model Races.

Berry keeps the Feature Streak Alive!!

07/28/2007

By Tom Freimann

(Vernal, UT) The Western Dirt Racing Association made it's second trip of the season to the Flower Capital of the Rocky Mountains to visit Diamond Mountain Speedway, and 15 Super Dirt Late Models showed up to put on a show for the race fans of northeastern Utah.

Jeep Berry's good fortune continued as he rolled into the pits as he drew the #1 pill for the night and started the first heat on the pole. Heat One went caution free with Jeep winning the heat, followed to the checkers by the 3C of Curt Daniels, with Dean Moore in third, and Terry Boushee, and Jason Davis rounding out the top five.

Heat Two came out and also went 10 laps caution free as North Glenn, CO's Gary DeChant, who was joining the WDRA for his second time this season, and winning the heat with Helper's Corey Smith taking second. Coming in third was the 83 of Kevin Wright making his first appearance of the season with the WDRA Super Dirt Late Models. Fourth and Fifth place were taken by Dan Shepherd and Steve Gray.

The four lap Pole Dash was again ruled by Jeep, with Gary DeChant, Dean Moore, and Curt Daniels locking in the top four spots in the Feature.

The Driver's came out for introductions before the feature for the capacity crowd. This feature was a barn burner, with Jeep Berry once again dominating the field for the first 22 laps, in which Berry had lapped all the way up to third place. The yellow came out for the #28 of Michael Wright who collided with the outside wall on the front stretch, and took away the large led that Jeep had for the final three laps. Jeep took his 8th feature of the season and wound up in Victory Lane once again, with Curt Daniels taking second on a last lap pass of Dean Moore. Gary Dechant came in fourth, and the #27 of Mike McGinn coming in fifth from his 12th place starting position. Terry Boushee was sixth, Jesse Dimmick seventh, Jason Davis in eighth, and Kyle Hill and Ron Lengel rounding out the top ten.

The WDRA Late Models will be in Olathe, CO at Thunder Mountain Speedway for the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival next weekend. For more information, visit our website at www.wdra.net or our MySpace page at: www.myspace.com/western_dirt_racing_assoc

Jeep Berry remain unbeaten in WDRA action.

By Tom Freimann

(Olathe, CO) The Western Dirt Racing Association returned to Thunder Mountain Speedway as the clouds were rolling in on the luckiest day of the year, 7/7/07, Saturday night. Twelve Super Dirt Late Models were in the pits, as new track owner Sean Gibbs welcomed the WDRA back to Olathe.
The track saluted the man who built the track with every car in the pits coming out for a 4 wide salute, and the reving of the high powered engines in the memory of the man who brought racing to the mountains.

The Late Model drivers drew their pills to determine the heat line ups, and the pill draws mixed up the cars nicely to make for some exciting heat race action.

Heat One found Rifle, Colorado's Michael Wright on the pole, with Rookie Kyle Hill on the front row outside, having repaired his broken transmission from his last outing. The checkered flag was taken once again by the 75B of Jeep Berry, from his fifth place starting poisition, followed by Kyle Hill and Jesse Dimick from Price, UT.

Heat Two lined up with the #05 of Gary Dechant of North Glen, CO, making his first trip with the WDRA, on the pole and Helper, Utah's Ron Lengel on the outside. Heat 2 was won by the 3C of Curt Daniels coming from the 2nd row outside, with Gary Dechant in second and the 14m of Dean Moore in third.

The 4 lap Pole Dash decided the top 4 feature starting spots with Berry once again starting on the pole and Daniels on the outside, the second row would see Gary Dechant on the inside and Kyle Hill next to him.

As the Feature rolled onto the track, a 4 wide salute was given to the fans as the track was worked into racing condition. The feature was a battle all the way through the field as the green flag was thrown and went caution free for the first 18 laps until a 3 wide collision flattened tires on Kyle Hill's #47 machine and the #29A of Jason Davis. Kyle was able to get the tire changed, and a second caution on the restart allowed him to return to the back of the pack. After a few attempts, the final 7 laps were completed with Jeep Berry again dominating the field and winning his 6th straight feature. Coming in second was the #05 of Gary Dechant and Dean Moore in third. Corey Smith had another come from the back run to finish 4th with Wellington, Utah's Mike McGinn in 5th. Curt Daniels, Michael Wright, Ron Lengel, Kyle Hill and Andy Hill rounded out the Top 10.

The WDRA will be on the road to Price, Utah and the Desert Thunder Speedway next. Everyone will be working hard to be the next driver in victory circle and Jeep will be looking to go 7 for 7 and remain unbeaten.
